We’re in a weird place at the moment with Small Boy’s sleeping. I can’t get him to nap in the afternoon with me at all, despite him grudgingly napping in his bed for his dad or with his friends at nursery. The only way I can get him to sleep is popping him in the car seat and going for a drive. I was reluctant to do this at first as I didn’t want to gloss over the “I won’t go to sleep for mummy as she’s too much fun” issue, but after several days of us switching between exhaustion and “angry tired” I decide to give it ago. We’ve done it quite a few times now and it turns out not to be a waste of my time. I don’t end up sitting idly in the car. If you’re ever stuck in a car with a sleeping child, here’s 10 things you can safely do to fill the time Get a drive thru coffee, park up and enjoy (if you’re strategically doing this to encourage a nap, you could even take a flask!). If we’re together, my husband and I refer to these as city breaks Read a book. It’s a good idea to have one or a magazine in your glove box, or the Kindle app on your phone. Listen to a podcast. Dermaworks Eyebrow Serum If you’ve done the maths from my post about being an older mum you will know that I was in my teens and twenties though the nineties. In line with trends of the day I definitely overplucked to lick my thicker brows into shape. Of course now a more natural shape is de rigguer and I’ve struggled to get my brows anywhere close. But I also don’t have time to be off getting threaded or waxed! I’m not a huge fan of the heavy brow that looks a bit like Groucho Marx’s moustache but I have wanted a thicker, more natural look for a while, and even out my brows as one was a little thinner. I don’t tend to go for miracle cures but I discovered Dermaworks online and thought I’d give it a go. I’ve been using it twice a day for about seven weeks and now on my second bottle. I am really seeing results now. You just sweep it on your brows morning and evening and let it’s do its work. I still need to fill in a few gaps with powder but I really think the result is amazing! Apparently you have to keep using it to see the results, even if it’s a few times a week rather than everyday. I will definitely be keeping it up! Here’s my before and after. So while I don’t do new year resolutions, I am trying to take better care of myself this year. Of course, like most parents I really don’t have the time to invest too much in it, or a disposition which particularly enjoy lots of glittery girly fuss. My aim is mostly to not feel like a bag of crap and look reasonably presentable. There’s a few things I’ve been using over the past two months which are quickly becoming staples and definitely get a thumbs up from this busy Mum: Mother’s Select Probiotics These were gifted to me Mothers Select and they couldn’t have come at a better time. I’ve taken probiotic supplements in the past, usually combined with a multi vitamin. These take it to another level with a stand alone product designed for mums and mums to be. After a few weeks I’ve already noticed a difference with less bloating and discomfort – something I always suffer with if I eat a little too much junk, sugar or dairy (with life as manic as it has been the last few weeks my healthy eating has gone out of the window). You take one tablet a day and there’s sixty in each bottle. They’re coated and easy to swallow, and don’t taste of anything. The company is from the US but has international fulfilment centres – mine arrived from Amazon within a few days.
