My Weekly Wins #1

My Weekly Wins #1

It really feels like I should have started some sort of regular  weekly wins/ gratitude post at the beginning of the year, but in all honesty the first few weeks have been a blur or new routines and getting organised with a new work pattern. I’m finally in a position where I can stop and smell the metaphorical roses.

2017 was a crazy busy year with some real low points for us a family. We attempted to sell our house for the second time since Small Boy was born. This time we had no issues selling it but had two buyers drop out and lost two houses, the last time days before we expected to complete. Small Boy had illness after illness for a two month run. His sleep routine went out of the window and hasn’t returned. We had to take stock. We decided to put off moving for the foreseeable future and reduce my working hours so I didn’t have to juggle quite so much. Also, trying to work five days when you’re only getting three hours sleep a night isn’t ideal.

But we’re in 2018 now and I want to focus on the positive, because weirdly as soon as we’ve let the big things go, lots of small lovely things are happening. It’s easy as a parent to get consumed by the stuff of parenting and the stresses that being responsible for a small person can bring – the sleep deprivation, their development, keeping your job, feeding your family, making ends meet, the cost of childcare, still trying to be a couple. the list could go on. So this year, I’m challenging myself to remember all the little wins we have.

So I’m kicking off today, with my first weekly wins post.

This week, my wins were:

1. Small Boy and I went to an organised play group and although he was clingy and agitated, within 15 minutes he was joining in. My heart melted when he picked up a ball and threw it to another child. I cannot tell you how big a deal that was for me. Four months ago he would have been banging his head on the floor if he was overwhelmed.

2. We’re on a roll here. We went to a birthday party which was very busy and noisy, and Small Boy walked into the room and immediately started playing. He didn’t even mind other children getting in the ball park with him. My husband and I drove home afterwards, just saying “I’m so proud of him, he did so well today”, on repeat. It’s so amazing that he is getting more confident in busy social settings. You’d never know it around adults but he’s not so keen on others his age so this is HUGE!

3. I found an amazing insulated flask in ASDA that you can drink from without a cup as the lip stays cool. I’ve been unable to find it online anywhere so can’t share a buy link, but it’s amazing. I’ve been taking flasks of coffee with me ever since just in case Small Boy naps in the car. I pull up, pop on a podcast, kick back with some caffiene.

4. I was made Featured Blogger in the excellent Triumphant Tales linky for my post on 15 ways to start saving money a little but often. There were so many fabulous bloggers posting this week that I feel very lucky!

Thanks you too! It hasn’t been a great week – illness and some challenges with Small Boy and nursery, but there’s always a positive. For one thing, I made Featured Blogger on the #StayClassyMama linky. Stay tuned for Sunday!

Loving the flask. All my drives took me through the drive thru for coffee. Not Good! #fortheloveBLOG

My husband calls those “City breaks” as we need to go 10 miles to the next city (Cardiff) in order to get a drive thru. There’s McDonalds of course but I don’t think that quite counts. I’m trying to cut down on my plastics though so take a reusable cup just in case I get the opportunity. I drove all the way to Cardiff the other day just to get Small Boy to sleep in the car so having a latte from Costa at the end of it felt like quite a treat! Living the dream my friends.

    Love that cup!
I think that I’ve managed to find some time to read some blogs is my weekly win haha! #fortheloveofblog

I think that finding any time for yourself is a win in this day and age. We are all so busy! I’m still working my way through!

What a fantastic idea it is celebrating your successes. 2018 seems to be the year when a lot of people, myself included, kick on with the positive vibes. Really pleased your boy is growing confident in social surroundings. We had the same problem with our Daughter. Good luck to you for the rest of the year! #TriumphantTales

Thanks Neil. I hope you have a good year too. It seems like 2017 was tough for a lot of people and many of us have just decided to think about our mental health and focus on the positives.

Some great wins 🙂 Both mine can be quite shy and nervous in social situations so I get how exciting it is when they are relaxed and play! #BloggerClubUK

Thanks Sarah. I see so many kids just get stuck in straight away, it’s easy to forget that these are little people with nerves just like the rest of us. When you can’t verbalise how you’re feeling very well, it must be even worse. Thanks for stopping by.

Ooh what a great thing to do! I don’t think I can think of anything I’ve done in the past week as a win, apart from publishing a new blog post instead of recycling old ones! Thanks for linking up to #fortheloveofBLOG

Finding time to write a new post is definitely a win!

Ah, I am SO pleased you were chuffed with the Featured Blogger award. It was very well deserved. It is hard when the big things get on top of us and it’s easy to let them take over. I think we’re all guilty of doing that from time to time. It’s nice to sit back and think of the little things and this will be a great way to do that. Thanks for sharing with #TriumphantTales, we’d love to see you back again on Tuesday.
