Park Life: a short story about God, grief and gardening

Not that long ago, in a land where I didn’t have a toddler strapped to my leg, I used to write fiction.  Although I’m mainly known in the writing scene for my novels I first began writing short stories and flash fiction. One story in particular sprung to mind the other day. It holds a special place in my heart as it formed part of a collection written after my grandfather’s death. Perhaps my thoughts have turned to this as we…

A poem for Zanzibar : the nightclub where I spent my Newport nineties youth

Something weird has happened the past few days. A former nightclub in Newport has burned down, taking with it the church next door.  I’m not one for sentimentality but the whole thing has made me rather sad. On Friday night, a fire started in the building formerly known as Zanzibar. It was originally built in the 1860s as a baptist church but converted to a three story nightclub in the 1980s. It’s hard several incarnations since then, but Zanzibar seems to…

Indie Author Week UK

Apparently UK indie author week kicks off today and so while I’ve never heard about it before I thought I’d throw some of my limited weight behind it.  Why? Because being an independent anything is hard work. Being any type of author is incredibly hard work. A #WeeklyWins special: the highlight of my blogging life

I’m feeling quite flattered today. When I started my little family and lifestyle blog 7 months ago, I wasn’t sure if anyone would read it. In all honesty I thought I’d probably do it for a few months and it would run out of steam. Still, I felt like I had something to say. I wanted other working mums to know that the struggle is real! They are not alone in feeling frustrated or guilty. Similarly, you can be a superhero…
