I’ve been talking a lot about the new childcare offer for Wales, but I’ve noticed that on my Facebook group it is quite Newport-centric. This is in part because I’ve just learned that they will be joining the pilot for the new offer in September. I’ve also heard a rumour that Cardiff will be joining in September but this is via social media and I’ve no firm details.
I wanted to get more information out to all parents of three and four year olds. Even if you aren’t in a pilot area, or eligble if you are, there are other options available. You will still be entitled to the minimum ten hours childcare from the term following your child’s third birthday.
So I’ve pulled together everything I know and here you have a list of all the local authorities in Wales, along with links to their information pages on childcare. For areas that are involved in the 30 hour free childcare pilot, I’ve used a link to that specific page.
Blaenau Gwent (PILOT AREA)
Carmarthenshire (Sir Gaerfyrddin)
Flintshire (Sir y Fflint)PILOT AREA)
Rhondda Cynon Taf (IN PILOT)
Swansea (Abertawe) (IN PILOT)
The Welsh Government team responsible for the pilot are now starting some more proactive communications which I know we will all welcome. They’ve created a Facebook page so be sure to pop by and post any comments, questions or concerns. Follow progress about the rollout using the #TalkChildcare hashtag across your social media too.
