#RealMumsWorking : an interview with All About a Mummy

Welcome to #RealMumsWorking, a series dedicated to sharing the stories, experiences and advice of working mothers. Working mothers are a diverse breed with lots of challenges we can learn from.

Today I’m joined by Amy from All About a Mummy.  I was excited when Amy said she’d be happy to answer a few questions and share her experiences.  I too  juggle home working for part of my week and I’m always looking for tips to add to my list of ways to make working home work.

How did you feel about going back to work after children?

I was emotional at first but I soon realised I really enjoyed having an element to my life which was separate to my role at home.

What has been your biggest challenge as a working mum?

Probably when I went freelance. It was the best decision for us financially as I could work around the kids schedules so I didn’t pay for childcare. It  took me a very long time to find the balance between work and home life – I’m only just getting there 3 years on!

What’s your top piece of advice for working mums?

Be really strict on when you are working and when you are not. This can be really tricky if you work from home like me and can’t leave the office but it is so important. Little things like not checking your emails over the weekend or setting a timer when to stop working all help.

If you could change one thing about your current work situation what would it be?

I’d like to do more of the work I really enjoy but financially I need to keep doing more of the mundane tasks too at the moment.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? *

Hopefully moving my business towards a more creative niche, making use of my art degree more and my creativity.
